Social Work
School social services are a special education related service, are IEP driven, and involve:
- preparation of a social/developmental history of a child
- counseling with a child and family
- participation in developing behavioral intervention strategies
- integration of school and community resources
School social workers assist students when social, emotional, and/or behavioral problems are impacting a child's ability to gain access to the general education setting, and when a child is not making academic process due to social/emotional and/or behavioral deficits. School social workers are district resources and are assigned to schools based on need as identified through the special education department.
